Here are some more Sassanid infantry that I've just finished painting for my 15mm Sassanid army. These are all Forged in Battle figures from their Sassanid heavy infantry pack with an LBM banner. These are really lovely, detailed little figures, more true 15mm than 18mm, that are just great to paint. I have quite a few more packs of these to paint, mainly Clibinarii and a pack of the Daylami hillmen.
Beautiful looking unit!

Thanks Michal, Forged in Battle have some great 15mm ancients and dark ages ranges.
DeleteThey certainly look the part! Great job.
ReplyDeleteThanks Aaron, they're lovely figures.
DeleteVery cool Ancient foot, Mike. The shields look very unique - wicker, I'm assuming? And the shape looks almost like Medieval heaters.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean, the shields were wicker and wood with a pointed end, shaped like heater shields. The appearance of these troops is based on findings at Dura-Europos, there's a great book on the arms and armour found at the excavations there by Simon James.
DeleteGreat looking troops with strange looking sheilds.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray, the shields are based on findings at Dura-Europos which was destroyed in the 250s AD. Some of the painted Roman shields in the Simon James book are amazingly elaborate and detailed.
DeleteSplendid looking Sassanids!

Thanks Iain, there's a lot of cavalry to paint next!
