Indian Elephant and Cavalry

Here's an Indian elephant and some cavalry that I've just finished painting. The ellie and crew are by V&V Miniatures, a very detailed resin kit, and the cavalry are by Newline Designs. We have a Mauryan versus Nandan Indian ADLG game organised for later this week and these figures are reinforcements for that game.

Neo-Babylonian Infantry

Here are some Neo-Babylonian infantry from the archives, mixed spearmen and archers, they're Newline Designs figures. I'm currently reading Mark Healy's The Ancient Assyrians, Empire and Army, 883-612 BC. This is a hardback updated and expanded version (320 pages) of his 1991 Osprey book The Ancient Assyrians. It still has the colour illustrations by Angus McBride, as well as additional illustrations and full page photographs from the British Museum. Definitely worth getting if you are interested in the Neo-Assyrians. Also highly recommended are Eckart Frahm's Assyria: The Rise and Fall of the World's First Empire and Roland Sennewald's The Art of War in Ancient Assyria: The Sargonid Dynasty at War from Sargon II to Ashurbanipal (722-627 BC). Sennewald has an accompanying volume The Enemies of the Assyrian Sargonid Empire to be published this year. Tamas Dezso's three volume The Assyrian Army seems to be out of print now but might be available from second hand booksellers.

Hebrew Spearmen and Archers

Here are some Hebrew spearmen and archers that I've just finished painting. Most are Newline Designs figures with four Castaway Arts figures in the front rank of the spearmen. I now have enough painted figures for a Chariots Rampant game with the Hebrews versus Philistines and Midianite allies so will try a solo game of that soon.

Hebrew Gibborim

Above are some Hebrew Gibborim 'mighty men', these were the elite infantry of the Hebrew/Israelite army, originally the personal retinue of David in his time as a Philistine mercenary. The figures are a mix of Castaway Arts and Newline Designs. Below the Ark of the Covenant receives an escort of chariots and Gibborim. The slingers at the bottom are Syrian/Canaanite figures by Foundry which could certainly pass muster in an early Hebrew army.

Ark of the Covenant and Hebrew Chariots

Here's the Ark of the Covenant and two Hebrew chariots that I've just finished painting. All the figures are by Castaway Arts except for the crew and chariot with barded horses which are by Newline Designs. The David and Goliath figures are also by Castaway but I painted them years ago. I'll use the Ark as a sacred camp for my Hebrew/Israelite army. I have some elite Gibborim 'mighty men' and some Philistine/Pelset spearmen based and undercoated as well. The initial aim is for small forces for both sides.

Here are some old photos from the archives of my New Kingdom Egyptian army. These pics were taken twelve years ago and are a real mix of ranges. I painted all units, they have varied skin tones but some are HCH/Tin Soldier figures. The army has only expanded since then, but of course is still not finished! Ultimately I would like to have four divisions - Amun, Re, Ptah and Set to fight Kadesh and have many more figures, particularly chariots, to paint.

Indian Reinforcements

Here are some reinforcements for my Indian army to bring a cavalry unit and a two horse chariot unit up to strength. The cavalry are Newline Designs figures and the chariots are Old Glory Miniatures but I've added in some 1st Corps crew and drivers for a bit of variety. As mentioned in the previous post, we have a Late Achaemenid Persians versus Indians MeG game organised for next week, so these figures will probably see action then.

Norman Milites

Here are some Norman Milites from the archives. These are mainly Conquest Games Norman plastic cavalry with two Crusader Miniatures figure...
