Hittites versus New Kingdom Egyptians Midgard Game

Egyptian chariots charge in to combat

Last Thursday afternoon Robert came over to my place and we played a Hittites versus New Kingdom Egyptians Midgard game out in the shed. We diced for sides, Robert commanded the Hittite attackers and I commanded the Egyptian defenders. Both sides advanced and after shooting the Egyptian chariots on both flanks charged in to combat. The Hittite chariots on the Egyptian right flank were routed but the Hittite infantry charged in and this infantry combat was to decide the game. The Egyptian army commander who was attached to a unit of mace/axemen was killed in single combat by the Hittite army commander. Units with a charging or winning marker can reroll ones in combat and the Hittites quickly got on a roll and routed two units of Egyptian spearmen. The Egyptians lost their final reputation token and the game.

Sea Peoples versus New Kingdom Egyptians Midgard Game

New Kingdom Egyptians

Last Wednesday afternoon Garry and Robert came over and we played a Sea Peoples versus New Kingdom Egyptians Midgard game out in the shed. Robert was recovering from running the MeG comp at Cancon, so he just watched the game. Garry commanded the Egyptian attackers and I commanded the Sea Peoples defenders. The Egyptian chariots proved very effective with their shooting and soon routed the javelin armed Sea Peoples' chariots. The armies closed but infantry combat didn't see an improvement in the Sea Peoples' fortune. Their army commander was killed in single combat by the Egyptian commander and after several rounds of combat an Egyptian archer unit routed a Sherden warrior unit to claim the Sea Peoples' final reputation token and win the game.

New Kingdom Egyptian Spearmen

Here are some New Kingdom Egyptian spearmen of the 19th or 20th dynasties that I've finally finished painting. The figures are by Wargames Foundry, sculpted by the Perrys. The back drop photo was taken in the Valley of Kings at Luxor in Egypt on our trip there in 2009.

Early New Kingdom Egyptian Infantry

Here are some early 18th Dynasty New Kingdom Egyptian infantry from the reign of  Thutmose III or Thutmes III. These 15mm two handed axemen and archers are by Khurasan Miniatures, eventually I hope to refight the Battle of Megiddo (1457 BC Middle Chronology) with these figures for the Egyptian side. The middle lot of archers have a leather net kilt. Angus McBride's illustrations of Egyptian infantry with these can be seen in plates A and D of Mark Healy's Osprey book New Kingdom Egypt.

Below are photos of painted reliefs of the infantry from Dahr Al-Bahari, the Temple of Queen Hatshesput from around the same time. Hatshepsut was regent for Thutmose III before he came of age and was made Pharaoh. I took these photos on our trip to Egypt in 2009.

Hittites vs New Kingdom Egyptians ADLG Game

Armies close and shooting commmences

On Friday morning I played a solo ADLG game with my 15mm Hittites and New Kingdom Egyptians. Last year I painted some Red Copper Miniatures Hittite spearmen and Sea Peoples but hadn't got around to playing a game with them yet. The armies were two corps each of 150 points. The Hittites were the attackers and advanced and charged on both flanks with their chariots. Egyptian Sea Peoples allies charged in the centre, the Sherden and Pelset slowly but surely grinding down the Hittite spearmen. It was a hard fought game and both Hittite commanders were killed in melee. The Hittites continued fighting and were winning on the flanks with their chariots but losing in the centre with their infantry. Eventually they became demoralised, it was a close 18-13 result for the Egyptians.

Above are some photos of some Nubians I've finished painting, except for most of the archers and the Nubian chieftain which I painted a while ago. They're a real mix of ranges from Wargames Foundry (the best), Casting Room Miniatures, Warlord Nubians and Kushites, Vendel Kushites, Essex Miniatures and Black Tree Designs (the worst). I used these figures today for a 24 point Nubian Chariots Rampant force against New Kingdom Egyptians, commanded by Craig. The scenario was a Nubian ambush of the Egyptians, and proved to be a lot of fun. See photos below. The Egyptians just managed to fight off the Nubian attack but it was very close.
