Sassanid Cataphracts, Clibinarii and Infantry

Clibinarii

Here are some Cataphracts, Clibinarii and more infantry for my Sassanid army. I now have enough painted units for a Dux Bellorum game (see group shot below) so will try that soon with my Late Romans as opponents. I have Middle Imperial and Early Byzantine armies to paint as well so there will be no shortage of armies to fight them. The figures are mainly a mix of A&A, Gripping Beast and Aventine with LBM shield transfers and banners.

Carthaginian Command

Here's a Carthaginian command stand that I've just finished painting. The Hannibal figure with folded arms is by Xyston and the other command figures are by A&A. The A&A command figure pack includes a Hannibal figure and comes with two identical mounted (see photo below) and foot figures. I have at least five Hannibal figures, one on an elephant (Relic), one mounted with a standard bearer (1st Corps) and these three here!

Sassanid Elephant and Infantry

Here's a Sassanid elephant and infantry that I've just finished painting. The ellie and crew are by Aventine Miniatures, although the mahout is actually A&A as I couldn't find the original Aventine mahout. The shield transfers and ellie blanket are by LBM. The Sassanid spearmen are all A&A with replacement shields I bought from Phil Hendry years ago. The larger version of these shields is available from Aventine. The archers are a mix of Aventine and A&A with a single Vendel Mede archer with a globe hat.

Sassanid Clibanarii and Elephant

Here are some Sassanid Clibanarii that I've just finished painting and an elephant I painted about nine years ago. I've posted some photos of my 15mm Sassanids before but none of my 28mm figures. The clibanarii are Gripping Beast, except for a single A&A Miniatures figure, all with LBM shield transfers and the ellie and crew are all A&A. Once I've got a few more units painted, I'll try my Sassanids against my Late Romans in a Dux Bellorum game.

Palestinian Clubmen

Here's a post from the archives, a unit of Palestinian clubmen from the A&A Middle Imperial Roman range. Sad to say this is still the only completed unit from my Middle Imperial Roman army thus far, though I have most of it based and some of it prepped for painting.

Carthaginian Commanders and Cavalry

Here's another post from the archives, a Carthaginian command stand, Carthaginian cavalry and Numidian cavalry. The Carthaginian figures are by A&A Miniatures with LBM shield transfers and the Numidian cavalry figures are by Crusader Miniatures.

I've been looking at my Neo-Assyrian army from the reign of Ashurbanipal (668-627 BC) with the Mortem et Gloriam army list, Later Sargonid Assyrian. I have enough painted figures to easily make up a Pacto (small) sized army of about 3500 points but need a few more command stands, one will be a four horse chariot and the other an armoured cavalry base of three figures. I'm planning a game with them against an all cavalry Kimmerian or Early Scythian army but have to finish painting the noble cavalry and more horse archers.

I'm tempted to get a 28mm Kushite army as opponents for the Neo-Assyrians, Eureka have some nice archers and javelinmen, as depicted in palace reliefs of Ashurbanipal and illustrated in the Stillman and Tallis WRG book Armies of the Ancient Near East (p.111):

I already have quite a large unpainted Nubian army and many of these figures could be used, the cavalry and chariots are more tricky but conversions from spare New Kingdom Egyptian figures are an obvious possibility.
