Here are some Bedouin Cavalry that I've just finished painting for my Seljuk/Fatimid/Ayyubid armies. Figures are by Perry Miniatures with a LBM Islamic banner. I should have checked the banner on the LBM website as I don't read Arabic and may have it upside down or the wrong way around!

Saladin and More Horse Archers

 

Here is a Gripping Beast Saladin figure and some more Perry Seljuk and Turcoman horse archers that I've finally finished painting. I'm currently reading Jonathan Phillips' book The Life and Legend of the Sultan Saladin which is very interesting.

Irish Chieftain, Galloglass and Light Horse

 

Here's an Irish chieftain, some galloglass and light horse that I've just painted. The figures are by Redoubt Enterprises, except for four Perry Galloglass. A big thanks to Andy Grubb, the owner of Redoubt who included seven free additional figures with my order! They're excellent figures and I will definitely be ordering more as I paint up my Irish armies.

Two excellent new books on this subject have been published this year, both are beautifully illustrated and worth getting. The first is Of Kern and Gallowglasses Irish Armies of the 16th Century 1487-1587 by Robert Gresh published by Helion and Company. The second Galloglas From the Western Isles to Ireland by Dave Swift, Maximilian Bunk and Hagen Seehase published by Zeughaus Verlag.

Here are some Seljuk and Turcoman horse archers that I've just finished painting. Figures are by Perry Miniatures with two LBM shield transfers. These are for my Seljuk/Syrian/Fatimid/Ayyubid army. I'm working on some Gripping Beast plastic Arab heavy cavalry at the moment, amongst other things, so they will probably be next.

Here are some Galloglass and Kern, the start of a small Irish force, for Never Mind the Billhooks. I've just finished painting most of these but the Vendel Galloglass I painted quite a few years ago. The Antideluvian Miniatures figures were actually Claymore Castings figures when I bought them a while ago. The back drop photo was taken in the Orkney Islands in 2011.

American Civil War Buildings

 

Here are two American Civil War buildings that I've just finished painting. We have an ACW game lined up tomorrow, so hopefully we will find a use for them. The buildings are a North American Farmhouse and Ramshackle Barn by Renendra.

Peninsular War British - 1st (or the Royal) Regiment of Foot

Here's a battalion of Peninsular War British, they're the 1st (or the Royal) Regiment of Foot retitled as the 1st (or the Royal Scots) Regiment of Foot in 1812. The first and third battalions served through the entire Peninsular War. The figures are all Perry Miniatures that I picked up at Cancon quite a few years ago, very nicely painted by the Dragon Painting Service from Hong Kong I think. I've just finished rebasing them and added some Victrix flags, so will hopefully get in a game with them soon.

Here are some Perry Miniatures Turcopoles that I've just finished painting. Half of them have LBM shield transfers. I've also assembled and primed a set of the new Fireforge Games plastic Turcopoles and have included some comparison shots below.

Last Saturday afternoon Craig came over to my place with his lovely Perry Samurai and we played three games of Command and Colors Samurai Battles. The first two games were with his figures, we swapped sides and the scenario was the second in the board game, the Takeda Vanguard on Arita Castle. We just used the figures Craig brought along, with very small unit sizes and there were no actual Mori or Takeda clan painted figures. Craig's figures are all based for his Samurai skirmish rules, Ronin which are published by Osprey and great fun. 

Craig cleaned up quickly as the Mori in the first game, the scenario only has three victory banners, and in the second game I also won as the Mori but the result was a bit closer. The third game we just played with the blocks and this was third scenario in the board game, Arita Castle Phase 2 Matauchi River. This was a cracking game that had plenty of ebb and flow, before Craig emerged victorious, as the Mori again, this time 6-3 victory banners. All three games were great fun and provided an excellent afternoon's gaming. I've enjoyed playing this game so much that I've ordered 28m Samurai figures, so looking forward to this and reading up on the Sengoku Jidai period!
