Later Mycenaean Chariot

Here's another later Mycenaean chariot that I've just finished painting. The chariot and horses are from the Wargames Atlantic plastic set Bronze Age Chariots, while the driver and warrior are by Wargames Foundry. You get three crew with each of the Foundry chariots, so I have a few spares to use for the Wargames Atlantic chariots. Below there's a comparison shot of Redoubt, Wargames Atlantic and Foundry chariots.

Border Reivers on Foot

Flags of War

Colonel Bills and Wargames Atlantic

Here are some Border Reivers on foot that I've just finished painting. Figures are a mix of Flags of War, Colonel Bills and Wargames Atlantic plastic Conquistadors. I now have enough mounted and foot figures to try out a game of Border Wars, the Flag of Wars' skirmish rules. I still have plenty of Reivers, civilians and stock to paint for this period with more of the superb Flags of War models, as well as the Timeline Miniatures ones.

Tlaxcallan Command and Archers

Here are some Tlaxcallan command stands and archers. The command figures with vine and crane banners are by the Assault Group and the archers are a mix of Assault Group and Wargames Atlantic plastic Aztecs that have head bands and feathers added. The Tlaxcallans were enemies of the Aztecs and allies of the Conquistadors. A great resource on the appearance of the Tlaxcallans is the Lienzo de Tlaxcala, an online version of which is available on the University of New Mexico's Digital Collections site.

Median Guardsmen

Here is my first unit from the new Wargames Atlantic plastic Persian Infantry set. These are Guardsmen in Median dress, based on the illustration by Richard Scollins, in Duncan Head's book The Achaemenid Persian Army. As I mentioned in my last post, I'm planning on further Early Persian units of Immortals, Kissians, Iranians and Persians/Medes.

Sea Peoples' Chariots and Median Guardsmen WIP

Here's another post from the archives, two Sea People chariots, by Cutting Edge Miniatures/Warlord Games. The first one is Pelset, the crew have crested helmets, and they eventually settled in modern Israel and became the Philistines. The other are Lukka (Lycians) with horned helmets.

I've also included a work in progress shot of some Median Guardsmen from the new Wargames Atlantic plastic Persian infantry set, at the end of the post. I initially ordered a single box of these but then ordered a further two as you're able to make a twenty four figure Immortal unit in campaign dress (they are only eight torsos with scale armour in a box). The best and most accurate early Persian range around is still the Xyston 15mm one, but this set gives a lot of variety with head options and is particularly good for early Persian sparabara and archers (you can even do Assyrians). I'm planning on further units of Immortals, Kissians, Iranians and Persians/Medes.
