Here are some more armoured Thracian noble cavalry and two Thracian infantry command stands that I've finally finished painting. The cavalry are by Crusader Miniatures and Newline Designs, the infantry command stands are by Aventine Miniatures. I'm working on more infantry for my Thracians, later Hellenistic Thracian peltasts with rhomphaia, in both 15mm Xyston figures and 28mm with Aventine and Crusader figures.

Last Sunday afternoon Craig came over and we played a Thracians versus Scythians Midgard game out in the shed. I added a Parthian shot trait for the Scythian and Getic horse archers, so they could shoot when they evaded. The Scythians advanced in the centre and charged a Thracian peltast unit. Single combat between the two attached heroes resulted in the death of the Thracian hero but the horse archers were destroyed themselves. The Thracian noble cavalry on the left flank charged the Scythian noble cavalry. The Scythians countercharged but were destroyed outright in the combat while only inflicting a single hit on the Thracians.
Back on the Thracian right flank the other Scythian noble cavalry unit charged the Thracian noble cavalry. The Thracians countercharged and were once again extremely lucky with their dice destroying the Scythians while suffering only a single hit. The Scythians were down to their last two reputation tokens by this stage and the Getic horse archers were able to destroy a half strength Scythian horse archer with shooting to finish them off. This was a rather unsatisfactory game as two combats with exceptional dice rolls for the Thracians really decided the result. Horse archer armies never seem to fair well under most rules that I've played.

Here are some pics of various Thracians I've acquired and painted over the years. First up are some Thracian noble heavy cavalry that I've just finished painting. The figures are by Old Glory Miniatures. The Thracian light cavalry are also Old Glory with the exception of a single Minifigs figure on a Hinchliffe horse that I painted years ago. All of the Old Glory Thracian light cavalry and infantry were painted by Adam Stone, part of an Old Glory Macedonian army I bought from him. The infantry are in photo order, later Hellenistic peltasts with rhomphaia, javelins and thureoi shields and earlier peltasts with javelins and peltai shields.
The earlier peltasts are a mix of Old Glory and Wargames Foundry figures. The Wargames Foundry second hand figures are beautifully painted by the Dragon Painting Service in Hong Kong. They're much better than anything I could manage but the colours are a bit lurid for my taste, I prefer more muted tones! Most ancient armies would be covered head to toe in dust anyway. Collecting Thracians it is hard to avoid having two armies with the earlier peltasts and later Hellenistic ones. I have many more units to add to these armies with Old Glory, Minifigs, Tin Soldier, Essex, Foundry, Crusader and Aventine figures.
