Last Friday afternoon Garry and Craig came over and we played an ADLG refight of the Battle of Pydna with four corps a side. Garry commanded the Late Macedonians and Craig and I, the Romans. The Romans and Italian allies deployed on the foot hills near their camp and were reluctant to advance down on to the plain to face the Macedonian pike. Most of the action was on the flanks with Pergamene allies on the Roman left and Numidian allies on the Roman right. It was close fighting for most of the game but eventually the Pergamene and Italian allies were able to roll up the Macedonian right flank. The Macedonian left flank was still closely contested but there was not much they could do it, was just a matter of time before the pike were hit in the flank, so the Macedonians conceded the game.
