Sassanid Clibanarii and Elephant

Here are some Sassanid Clibanarii that I've just finished painting and an elephant I painted about nine years ago. I've posted some photos of my 15mm Sassanids before but none of my 28mm figures. The clibanarii are Gripping Beast, except for a single A&A Miniatures figure, all with LBM shield transfers and the ellie and crew are all A&A. Once I've got a few more units painted, I'll try my Sassanids against my Late Romans in a Dux Bellorum game.

Numidian Cavalry

I'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and happy (and safe) gaming, blogging and painting for 2021!

Above are some 15mm Numidian cavalry by Corvus Belli, that I've just finished painting. PSC have just rereleased some of these figures in resin (Ultracast) as part of their Pacto Mortem et Gloriam Carthaginian army.

Below are some photos of White Cockatoos and a Corella enjoying a pre-Xmas feast from our apple tree.

Lion Rampant Crusader States Game Two

Last Monday afternoon Craig came over to my place and we played a Lion Rampant Crusader States game with two warbands a side (50 points). I had a First Crusade force from the Western Crusaders list and Craig had a Muslim force from the Anatolia and Syria list. The Crusaders were the attackers with the usual Bloodbath scenario, and quickly wiped out some Wild Turks who failed to evade. Craig often seems to have bad luck with his dice in our games. Combined with lighter armour for the Muslim forces compared to the more heavily armoured Crusaders it was tough going and eventually the Muslims were worn down. Three of Craig's infantry units were armed with hand siphon Greek Fire (usually only used in sieges) but in our game this did not seem overly effective for the six points it cost.

Sumerian Spearmen of Ur

Here's another post from the archives, a unit of Sumerian spearmen with copper studded cloaks as depicted in the Standard of Ur. The figures are a mix of Castaway Arts, Wargames Foundry and Cutting Edge Miniatures/Warlord Games.

Norman Pueri and Pedites

Here are some unarmoured Norman cavalry and infantry that I've just finished painting. The figures are all Gripping Beast, except for a single Crusader Miniatures spearmen. The banner is by LBM and the shield transfers are a mix of LBM and VVV. We've got a Vikings club game organised for Sunday week with two warbands a side playing a First Crusade game with Lion Rampant: Crusader States. We haven't played a club game since March this year, so that should be fun, things are slowly opening again here.
