Last Thursday afternoon I played a solo Second Punic War Midgard game out in the shed. The forces were the 450 points Republican Roman and Carthaginian army lists on the Mogsymakes site, with the Romans attacking. This turned out to be a very close game with the Romans doing well on their right flank while the Carthaginians did well in the centre and on the Roman left flank. The Carthaginian elephant in the centre caused problems for the Romans and was fun to use, accounting for at least one Hastati unit and wounding the Roman consul army commander! In the end the Romans just managed to win on their right flank to finish the game. The Gallic warriors only armour two, couldn't match it with the armour three Roman heavy infantry and cost the Carthaginians the game.

Gorgeous game, theyre talkinf about doing the punic wars in 28mm at the club, its a very tempting period but how can I justify a third Roman army!

Thanks Iain, it is a great period, I’ve got at least five Roman armies, maybe a different scale?
DeleteGreat looking game sir!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michal, the Romans usually win but it was pretty close.
DeleteLovely collection of figures, they look super on the table, the Romans pulled off an unlikely victory at the end.
ReplyDeleteThanks Donnie, the Gallic infantry couldn’t match it with the heavier Roman infantry.
DeleteThat's a fab looking game! A good win for the Romans.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray, it was good fun and quite a close one.
DeleteFabulous Mick, great looking game Dean

Thanks Matt, I’m enjoying the Midgard games.
DeleteThey remind me of our WAB days which I like
DeleteIt does play like WAB, not surprising since he wrote two WAB supplements!
DeleteDelightful and beautiful figures. The Romans snatched a win? I'd not have thought it possible looking at your third and second last photos. Even in the last, those few legionaries on the right look about to be clobbered from flank and rear. The vicissitudes of army morale, hey?!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes, James
Thanks James, yes the Carthaginians were on track for a rare win but the Gallic infantry collapsed on the Roman right flank.
